Ring size guide.

Getting the ring size right matters — but it is far less stressful than most buyers make it. One complimentary resize is included within 60 days of every Fenora ring delivery. This guide covers every method for finding the correct size, how international sizing systems compare and what to do when buying as a surprise.

01

Why ring size matters — and why it is not as critical as you think

A ring that is the correct size sits comfortably on the finger, stays in place without spinning and comes off without difficulty. A ring that is too small is uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. A ring that is too large spins, sits incorrectly and risks slipping off.

The good news: Fenora includes one complimentary resize within 60 days of delivery on every ring. This means that for surprise proposals — where finding the exact size without asking is difficult — ordering in a standard size and resizing after the proposal is a completely normal and fully supported approach. The resize is free, uses a pre-paid return shipping label and takes 3–5 working days.

What affects ring size
  • Time of day — fingers are typically slightly larger in the evening than in the morning due to fluid retention during the day
  • Temperature — fingers contract in cold and expand in heat. Measure at a normal indoor temperature
  • Exercise — fingers swell slightly during and immediately after exercise. Do not measure immediately after a workout
  • Pregnancy and health changes — finger size can change significantly during pregnancy and with certain health conditions
“Almost half of all engagement ring proposals involve a surprise. The complimentary resize exists specifically for this reason. Order a standard size, propose, then come back to us for the correct fit. It is simple and fully covered.”

Most common sizes
  • The most common ring finger size for women internationally is approximately AU/UK N / US 7 / EU 54 — 17.2mm internal diameter
  • If ordering without knowing the exact size, AU/UK N / US 7 is the most reliable standard size to order for a woman

How to find her ring size without asking — four methods

Finding her ring size without revealing the surprise requires some detective work. These methods are tried and reliable.

  • 01
Borrow an existing ring she wears on her ring finger
This is the most reliable method. Take a ring she wears on the ring finger of her left hand (or right hand if she prefers right-hand rings). Bring it to the consultation or measure its internal diameter with a ruler to two decimal places. Yash Chandpara converts this to a ring size immediately.
  • 02
Ask a friend or family member
Someone close to her may know her size — or may be able to ask on your behalf without revealing the specific reason. A trusted friend can often obtain this information naturally.
  • 03
Press the ring into soap or putty
While she is sleeping or distracted, briefly press one of her existing rings into a bar of soap or a piece of putty to create an impression. The internal diameter of the impression can be measured.
  • 04
Use the string or paper method on her finger
While she is asleep, very gently wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string around the base of her ring finger. Mark where it overlaps and measure the length. Divide by pi (3.14159) to get the internal diameter in millimetres, then convert using the size chart above.
Methods to avoid
  • Guessing based on general hand size — hands and finger size do not correlate reliably. A person with larger hands may have slender fingers
  • Asking a jewellery store to guess from your description of her hand — this is even less reliable than guessing yourself
  • Cutting a ring — cutting any ring to measure it is likely to damage it
04

How to measure your own ring size — at home accurately

If you know your own ring size and want to verify it, or if you are buying for yourself, these methods allow accurate self-measurement at home.

  • 01
Use a ring you already wear
Take a ring that fits correctly on the finger you intend to wear the new ring on. Measure its internal diameter — the distance across the inside of the ring from one inner wall to the other, in millimetres. Use the size conversion chart above.
  • 02
    Use paper strip and ruler
Cut a strip of paper approximately 10mm wide and 15cm long. Wrap it around the base of the target finger — the point where the ring will sit. Mark where the strip overlaps. Measure the length of the strip from end to the mark in millimetres. This is the circumference. Divide by 3.14159 to get the diameter.
  • 03
Measure at the right time of day
Measure in the evening when fingers are at their daily maximum size. A ring sized for the morning may feel tight by evening.
  • 04
    Check the fit before finalising
A well-fitting ring slides over the knuckle with moderate resistance and sits snugly at the base of the finger without pinching. If the knuckle is noticeably larger than the finger base, size for the knuckle and use sizing beads to secure the fit at the base.
Half sizes and in-between sizes
  • Most ring sizes are available as whole and half sizes
  • If you fall between two sizes, size up rather than down — a slightly large ring is more comfortable and safer than a slightly small one
  • For fingers where the knuckle is significantly larger than the base, discuss sizing options with Yash Chandpara during the consultation

The complimentary resize — how it works

Every Fenora ring includes one complimentary resize within 60 days of delivery. This is a full ring resize performed in Fenora's master jewellers in Surat by the same craftspeople who made the ring, returned by free express courier.

  • 01
    Contact Fenora
Email or WhatsApp Yash Chandpara with your order details and the new ring size required. Describe whether the ring needs to go up or down and by how many sizes if known.
  • 02
Receive the pre-paid return shipping label
Fenora provides a pre-paid, fully insured return shipping label within one business day. Print and attach to the package.
  • 03
    Package the ring securely
Use the original Fenora box or equivalent protective packaging. The ring should not move inside the package.
  • 04
Drop at the courier collection point
Use the nearest collection point for the courier specified on the label.
  • 05
Ring is resized in the workshop
Most resizes are completed within 3–5 working days of the ring being received. Yash Chandpara confirms the timeline when the ring arrives.
  • 06
    Free express return
The resized ring is returned by free express tracked courier across Australia — tracked and insured throughout. Typically 2–4 business days from dispatch.
Resize limitations
  • Most rings can be resized up or down by 1.5–3 sizes without affecting the design
  • Full eternity bands and rings with continuous pavé around the entire shank cannot be conventionally resized — alternative solutions (sizing beads, hidden shank inserts) are discussed individually
  • Resizes beyond the standard range are assessed individually by Yash Chandpara

Ring size for surprise proposals — the complete approach

Buying a ring as a surprise is one of the most common situations Yash Chandpara deals with. The approach is straightforward.

The recommended approach for surprise proposals
  • Step 1 — Try to find her existing ring size using the methods above. A borrowed ring is the most reliable route
  • Step 2 — If you cannot find the size, order in AU/UK N / US 7 — the most common size. This fits approximately correctly for most women and is easy to resize
  • Step 3 — After the proposal, bring her to a local jeweller or back to Fenora to confirm the correct size
  • Step 4 — Use the complimentary Fenora resize within 60 days. Pre-paid label, 3–5 working days, free express return
“Do not let the ring size question prevent you from getting the ring you want in time for the proposal you have planned. Order, propose, then get the size right. That is what the complimentary resize is for.”

Ring size questions — answered

Every question about ring size that comes up in consultations.

What is the most common ring size for women?
The most common ring finger size for women internationally is approximately AU/UK N / US 7 / EU 54 — an internal diameter of approximately 17.2mm. This is a reliable standard size to order when the exact size is unknown.
Can I resize the ring more than once?
The complimentary resize covers one resize within 60 days. After that, Fenora offers resizing as a paid service. The cost is confirmed before any work is done.
Does resizing affect the ring quality or warranty?
A resize performed by Fenora is part of the standard aftercare service and does not affect the warranty. The ring goes through inspection before and after resizing. A resize performed by a third-party jeweller may affect the warranty for the band at the point of the resize — always use Fenora for any ring work.
My knuckle is larger than my finger base — what size should I order?
Order to the knuckle size. A ring that fits the knuckle will be slightly loose at the base. Yash Chandpara can add sizing beads to the inner band during or after production to create a snugger fit at the base while allowing the ring to pass over the knuckle. Discuss this during the consultation.
How do I know if my ring fits correctly?
A correctly fitting ring: slides over the knuckle with moderate resistance, sits at the base of the finger without significant spinning or pinching, and requires a deliberate action to remove. If it slides off too easily or constricts the finger, it is the wrong size.
