Custom engagement rings.

Every Fenora ring is made to order. Custom design goes further — creating something that does not currently exist anywhere. A ring designed by our design team from your specific reference images, your aesthetic direction and the IGI certified stone Yash Chandpara has sourced for you. This guide explains exactly what custom means at Fenora, the complete process, what makes a strong brief, how pricing works and when custom is the right answer — and when it is not.

01

What custom design actually means at Fenora

Every Fenora ring is made to order. Custom design goes a step further — it means creating a ring that does not currently exist in the Fenora collection. A setting designed from your specific reference images. A combination of stone shape, setting style and design detail that is built from your brief rather than selected from an existing catalogue.

Custom design at Fenora is led by our design team — who designed every piece in the collection. A custom brief is treated as a design project: our design team works from your reference images, your aesthetic direction and the specific stone Yash Chandpara has sourced, to create something that belongs to you and no one else.

Importantly, custom design at Fenora does not carry a significant premium over collection pieces and does not extend the timeline in most cases. The 10–12 working days crafting window applies to most custom designs. More complex pieces with intricate hand-engraving or unusual structural requirements may take longer — Yash Chandpara confirms this before any order is placed.

What custom design includes
  • A ring designed by our design team specifically from your brief — not a collection piece with minor modifications
  • The same IGI certified lab grown diamond used in all Fenora rings — the stone quality standard does not change for custom pieces
  • The same 22-point quality inspection before dispatch that applies to every Fenora ring
  • The same lifetime manufacturing warranty, the same free resizing policy and the same aftercare service
“A custom brief is one of my favourite things to work on. Every collection piece starts with a general brief and gets refined into something that works for everyone. A custom piece starts with one specific person and ends there.”
— Yash Chandpara, Founder

Custom design vs collection — understanding the difference

The distinction between choosing a collection piece and commissioning a custom design is worth understanding clearly before deciding which approach is right for you.

Modifications to collectionMinor modifications (prong style, band profile) can often be accommodated without full custom designFull custom is appropriate when the core design concept is new
“The honest question to ask before going custom is: does the ring I want already exist in the collection, or close enough to it? If the answer is yes, a collection piece with minor modifications will be faster and simpler. If the answer is no, that is exactly what custom is for.”
03

What makes a strong custom brief

The quality of a custom design begins with the quality of the brief. A clear, specific brief produces a design that matches what you had in mind. A vague brief produces guesswork. Here is exactly what makes a custom brief strong.

Reference Images
The most important element
Images communicate aesthetic preferences more precisely than any description. Save every ring you have been drawn to — from Pinterest, Instagram, jewellery websites, a friend's hand. Even an image you like for one specific reason (the prong shape, the band width, the way the setting meets the stone) is useful starting material for our design team.
Level of Detail
How much organic or decorative detail?
Is the goal a clean, minimal design where the stone does everything? Or a detailed setting with vine work, milgrain, filigree or floral elements? The level of detail is one of the most important brief parameters — it shapes the entire design approach.
Metal Choice
Which metal and tone?
Yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum. The metal is not just a practical choice — it profoundly affects the character of the design. Rose gold and nature inspired elements work together differently to white gold and architectural geometry.
Stone Shape
The design starts here
The stone shape is the foundation of every ring design. Round, oval, pear, emerald, cushion — each has a different proportional character that shapes what setting styles work around it. Bring the shape to the consultation even if nothing else is decided.
What to Avoid
As useful as what you want
If there are specific elements you actively do not want — a certain prong style, a type of decoration, a particular band profile — bring those to the consultation. Knowing what to avoid is as useful as knowing what to include.
Budget Range
Approximate is fine
A rough budget range helps Yash Chandpara source the right stone to build the design around, and helps our design team calibrate the design complexity to what is achievable within the brief.
04

The custom design process — every step

A Fenora custom design follows a defined process from the initial consultation through to the ring arriving. Understanding every step makes the experience predictable and removes uncertainty from what can otherwise feel like a complicated undertaking.

  • 01
    Initial consultation with Yash Chandpara
The consultation covers both the stone and the design simultaneously — because the two are inseparable in a custom brief. Bring your reference images. Yash Chandpara discusses the stone options that fit your budget and brief. Our design team discusses the design direction. Both conversations happen in the same consultation.
  • 02
    Design direction confirmed
From your references and the consultation discussion, our design team develops a design direction. For straightforward custom pieces, this is described verbally and confirmed in the consultation itself. For complex pieces — intricate filigree, unusual structural designs — Our design team may provide a reference illustration after the call for your review and approval.
  • 03
    Stone selected and allocated
Yash Chandpara identifies the specific IGI certified stone that fits your brief. You see the stone on screen — dimensions, proportions, the IGI certificate — before it is allocated to your order. The stone is confirmed at the same time as the design.
  • 04
Design and stone confirmed in writing
Before any crafting begins, both the design brief and the specific stone are confirmed in writing. This is the point at which the order is placed and payment is made. There are no surprises after this confirmation — what is confirmed is what is made.
  • 05
    Crafting
The ring is crafted by the Fenora master jeweller working to the confirmed brief. Stone is hand-set into the completed custom setting. Finishing is applied. For most custom pieces, this stage takes the same 10–12 working days as a collection piece.
  • 06
    22-point quality inspection
The completed custom ring goes through exactly the same systematic quality inspection as any Fenora collection piece. Every stone is checked for security. Every surface is examined. The ring is compared against the confirmed design brief.
  • 07
    Delivery
The ring is packaged in Fenora presentation packaging with the IGI certificate and dispatched by free express tracked courier across Australia.

Custom design styles — what our design team creates

Our design team's custom design work covers every ring aesthetic. These are the categories that come up most frequently in custom briefs at Fenora.

Nature inspired custom designs
  • Leaf prong settings — the prongs that hold the centre diamond shaped as leaves rather than straight claws. A very popular custom modification to a classic solitaire format
  • Vine bands — the band designed as a twisting vine or branch, growing toward the setting. Available in very delicate fine versions and more substantial visible vine designs
  • Floral halos — the halo diamonds arranged as petals forming a flower around the centre stone. The most overtly romantic custom halo design
  • Branch split shank — the band divides into two organic branches as it approaches the setting. One of our design team's signature designs in this category
Vintage inspired custom designs
  • Art Deco geometric settings — octagonal halos, stepped profiles, milgrain edging throughout. Suits emerald and Asscher cut stones most naturally
  • Edwardian filigree — extremely fine metalwork forming lace-like open patterns in the setting gallery and band. The most technically demanding custom design category
  • Milgrain throughout — tiny metal beads along every edge of every surface. Available as an addition to almost any design style, adding a refined handcrafted quality
Architectural and minimal custom designs
  • East-west bezel — the stone set horizontally in a continuous metal rim. Very contemporary and immediately distinctive
  • Tension setting — the stone held by the pressure of the metal alone, no prongs visible. The most architectural of all engagement ring designs
  • Asymmetric designs — settings where the placement of the stone or the profile of the band is deliberately off-centre or asymmetric. Unusual and personal
06

Custom design pricing — the honest picture

Custom design pricing at Fenora is straightforward: most custom pieces are priced comparably to collection pieces of similar complexity. The pricing reflects the stone, the metal and the crafting work required. Jenasi does not charge a premium simply for the "custom" label.

Where custom pieces carry additional cost over equivalent collection pieces is in genuine additional complexity — intricate hand-engraving that requires significant skilled time, structural designs that require unusual metalwork, or very fine filigree that is technically demanding to execute. In every case, the pricing is confirmed in writing before the order is placed. There are no pricing surprises.

Pricing principles for custom design at Fenora
  • Stone cost — the primary driver of cost in any ring, custom or collection. The IGI certified stone price is the same regardless of whether the setting is custom or collection
  • Standard setting complexity — a custom solitaire, a custom bezel or a custom halo with a nature inspired detail costs comparably to an equivalent collection piece
  • High complexity additions — intricate filigree, hand-engraving covering significant surface area, unusual structural designs. These carry an additional cost that is always confirmed before ordering
  • No hidden costs — the complete price for the ring is confirmed before any order is placed. Warranty, delivery and aftercare are the same as all Fenora rings
“I never price a custom piece before I understand what it actually involves to make. And I never confirm a price without giving the client the complete figure first. What you confirm is what you pay. Nothing more.”
07

Custom design for special situations

Some specific situations make a custom design particularly appropriate. These are the most common ones that come up in Fenora consultations.

SituationWhy Custom Is RightWhat to Bring to the Consultation
Heirloom stoneYou have a diamond or other gemstone from a family piece that needs a new settingThe stone itself (Yash Chandpara assesses the dimensions and condition). Any history or context about the piece that is meaningful
Specific cultural or religious elementThe ring needs to incorporate a specific motif, symbol or design element that is not in any existing collectionImages or descriptions of the specific element. Any cultural context that shapes how it should be interpreted in the design
Unusual stone shape or sizeYour stone is a shape or size that existing settings are not proportioned forThe specific stone or its precise measurements. Images of rings you have liked around similar stones
Combining elements from multiple ringsYou have been drawn to elements from several different rings and want them combined into one designImages of each ring you are drawing from, with notes about which specific element attracts you
A very specific vintage periodYou want a ring that genuinely captures a specific historical period, not a generic vintage impressionReference images from the specific period. Any historical or personal context that is meaningful
Matching an existing ringThe engagement ring needs to match or complement a specific existing ring — family piece, existing jewelleryPhotographs and measurements of the existing piece. Bring it to the consultation if possible
08

What custom design is not appropriate for

Custom design is the right answer for specific situations. It is not always the right answer — and Yash Chandpara will say so honestly during a consultation if a collection piece is a better fit for your brief.

When a collection piece is a better choice
  • When an existing Fenora design already matches what you are describing — ordering a collection piece is faster, simpler and carries no uncertainty about whether the design will match your expectation
  • When time is the primary constraint and the brief is not specific enough to be confident in a custom outcome
  • When the modifications you want are minor — a different prong style, a slight change in band width. These can often be accommodated without full custom design
Signs a custom brief is the right approach
  • You have looked at the entire Fenora collection and nothing is exactly right — close in some ways but not quite what you have in mind
  • You have very specific reference images that do not match any existing design
  • The ring needs to incorporate a unique element — an heirloom stone, a cultural motif, a combination of design elements from multiple references
  • You have a clear vision for something that feels genuinely personal to her — not a general engagement ring aesthetic but a specific, individual design
09

Starting your custom brief — practical next steps

If a custom design is the right approach for your ring, here is how to start.

  • 01
    Collect reference images
Before the consultation, save every image that represents what you are looking for — even partially. Pinterest boards, Instagram saves, jewellery website screenshots. The more specific the images, the more productive the initial consultation.
  • 02
Note what you do not want
Just as valuable as the positive references. If there are elements you have seen and actively disliked — a prong style, a level of decoration, a band profile — note these separately. Knowing what to avoid is as useful as knowing what to include.
  • 03
Book a consultation and mention custom design
Tell Yash Chandpara at the start of the consultation that you are interested in a custom design. This shapes the consultation structure — more time on the design conversation, our design team is included from the beginning.
  • 04
    Bring your references and brief
Share your images during the consultation. Describe what you are drawing to in each one — the specific element, not the whole ring. Yash Chandpara work from this to develop the design direction.
  • 05
Review and confirm the design direction
After the consultation, our design team confirms the design direction in writing. For complex pieces, a reference illustration may be provided. Review this carefully — everything confirmed at this stage is what gets made.
  • 06
    Confirm the stone and proceed
Once the design and stone are both confirmed, the order is placed. The crafting process begins.

Custom design questions — answered

Every question about custom design that comes up in consultations.

How long does a custom design take?
Most custom designs are completed within the same 10–12 working days window as collection pieces. More complex pieces — very fine filigree, significant hand-engraving, unusual structural designs — may take longer. Yash Chandpara confirms the specific timeline before the order is placed and communicates any changes during the process.
Can I see a design sketch before I commit?
For straightforward custom pieces, the design direction is described and confirmed verbally in the consultation. For more complex pieces where there is genuine uncertainty about how specific elements will work together, our design team may provide a reference illustration for review before the order is confirmed. This is discussed and agreed during the consultation.
Can I change my mind after I have confirmed the design?
Changes can be made up to the point at which the metal has been prepared and the setting work has begun — typically within 24–48 hours of order confirmation. After this point, the crafting process has started and significant changes are not possible without starting again. Contact Yash Chandpara immediately by WhatsApp if you need to make a change after ordering.
Is a custom ring more expensive than a collection piece?
For most custom designs, the cost is comparable to a collection piece of similar complexity. The stone cost is the primary driver and is identical regardless of whether the setting is custom or collection. Additional cost applies only for genuinely complex additional work — intricate filigree, significant hand-engraving. All pricing is confirmed before the order is placed.
Can I use my own stone?
Yes. If you have a diamond or other gemstone you want to set in a custom Fenora ring, bring its details to the consultation. Yash Chandpara assesses the stone dimensions and condition, and our design team designs around it. Note that using a stone not sourced through Fenora means the IGI certification guarantee applies to the craftsmanship of the ring, not to the stone quality.
Can I see examples of previous custom designs?
Yash Chandpara can share examples of similar previous custom work during the consultation — subject to client privacy. These examples help calibrate what is achievable and what specific elements look like in a finished ring.
What if the finished ring does not match the confirmed design?
In the rare event that the finished ring does not match the confirmed design specification, Fenora resolves it — adjustment or remake. The 22-point quality inspection before dispatch is specifically designed to prevent this. Contact Yash Chandpara immediately with a photograph if you have any concern when the ring arrives.
