Why fingers swell during the day. The free sizing kit, the comfort-fit interior, and what every band in our line can — and cannot — be resized to later.
A wedding band that fits wrong becomes the daily reminder of a bad decision. Too tight and it leaves a mark. Too loose and it'll come off in cold pools, hot summers, or while you sleep. Sizing is non-negotiable.
Most men get sized once, at a jewellery store, in air-conditioning, after lunch, on a Tuesday. They walk out with a number and order a ring three sizes off where they'll actually wear it. Here's how to do it right.
Your ring finger is not a fixed size. Across a single day, it can swing by half a ring size. Across a year, by a full size. Across a lifetime, by 2–3 sizes. The factors:
— Temperature: hot weather expands fingers; cold contracts them. A 0.5–1 size swing is normal between summer and winter.
— Time of day: fingers are smallest first thing in the morning, largest in late afternoon/evening (after activity, salt, water retention).
— Salt & alcohol: a salty meal or a few drinks the night before can swell fingers by half a size.
— Exercise: immediately after a heavy workout, fingers are larger; the next morning, smaller.
— Long-term: men typically gain 0.5–1.5 sizes between ages 25 and 50, then sometimes lose them again with weight loss in later years.
We post you a kit with two tools: a plastic ring sizer strip (lets you size 3–14 in half-sizes) and three resin sample bands in 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm. Free worldwide, no commitment, no follow-up email.
Don't size yourself once and call it done. Put the sizer on first thing in the morning. Adjust until it slides over the knuckle with mild resistance and rests just below where you'll wear the band. Wear it for the full day. Notice if it gets tight in the afternoon or loose at night. The size you want is the one that's comfortable at the warmest, most-swollen point — usually after a meal or workout.
A 5mm band fits differently than a 1mm sizer. The actual width affects perceived tightness — wider bands feel snugger at the same nominal size. Wear the resin sample for an hour. If it's slightly tight, go up half a size. If it spins easily, go down.
Email or text us your final size. We confirm with one final question: "Are you confident this fits you in the afternoon, after activity?" If yes, we cut metal. If you're 50/50 between two sizes, we'll usually recommend the larger — easier to resize down than up, and a slightly loose ring beats a too-tight one for daily wear.
All Fenora men's bands are made with a comfort-fit interior — meaning the inside of the band has a slight dome rather than being perfectly flat. This isn't decorative. The dome means only the centre of the interior touches your finger; the edges are slightly raised away. Three things happen:
— The ring slides over your knuckle more easily
— It traps less moisture against your skin (reduces irritation)
— It feels narrower than its actual width (because there's less surface contact)
Important consequence: a comfort-fit band fits half a size larger than a flat-fit equivalent. So a "size 9 comfort-fit" feels like a "size 9.5 flat-fit". Our sizer is calibrated for comfort fit. Don't second-guess it.
After the free first resize: precious-metal resizing is charged at material cost only (typically $40–$120 depending on metal and how many sizes). Tantalum is the only metal in our line that cannot be resized — but if your size changes significantly, we'll remake the ring for you at material cost (around $400 for tantalum), not full price.
Better to nail the size first time than save 20 minutes today and resize three times in five years. Wear the sizing kit for a full day. Then decide.
Half-sizes exist for a reason. We make every band in half-size increments (size 8.5, 9.5, etc.). If your sizing kit reads between sizes — pick the half. Don't round to a full size and hope.
Quarter-sizes (8.25, 8.75) are also possible for an additional $50, but honestly, in 9 years we've never had a man tell us he could feel the difference between a 9 and a 9.25. The half-size is precise enough.
